A Tropical Modern Retreat in the Heart of Ubud, Bali
- Location: Ubud, Bali – Indonesia
- Area: 300 m²
- Year: 2024
Bali Purma Villa is a private villa project located in the serene area of Ubud, Bali — designed by DAD Architects with a modern tropical approach that blends tranquility, natural light, and refined spatial experience.
The client envisioned a calm and timeless retreat that connects seamlessly with nature while maintaining modern comfort and privacy. This vision guided the entire design process — from site analysis to spatial arrangement and material selection.
site CONTEXT

Nestled within Ubud’s lush tropical landscape, the site provides a strong natural character that inspired the architectural concept.
The building is oriented to maximize natural light, cross ventilation, and views toward the surrounding greenery.
Open connections between indoor and outdoor spaces allow guests to experience the landscape as part of the architecture — not merely as a background.
design concept
The main concept of Bali Purma Villa is “Tropical Serenity.”
It celebrates harmony between modern living and the tropical environment.
Spatial transparency, the use of natural materials, and soft transitions between indoor and outdoor areas create a calm and immersive experience.
Key design principles include:
- Maximizing cross ventilation and daylight,
- Framing strategic views from every room,
- Emphasizing natural textures through material expression.
spatial layout
The villa layout is designed with a clear hierarchy between public and private zones.
Communal spaces such as the living room, dining area, and kitchen open directly to the pool deck, encouraging interaction and openness.
Private areas, including the master bedroom and guest suites, are oriented for privacy while maintaining visual connection to the pool and garden.
Circulation is fluid, creating a seamless flow between spaces.

material & finished

The villa’s architectural character is defined by its natural material palette:
- Local stone and timber for warmth and authenticity,
- Exposed concrete and white terrazzo for a clean modern touch,
- Tropical roofing for both aesthetic value and climate performance.
The combination results in a timeless design that ages gracefully with its natural surroundings.
spatial experience
Every corner of the villa is designed to capture the essence of tropical living.
The living and dining areas feature open connections to the pool and landscape, blurring boundaries between indoor and outdoor.

The master bedroom offers a serene retreat with soft lighting, natural materials, and an intimate view toward the private pool — delivering comfort and luxury in perfect balance.
