PJ VILLA

Modern Tropical Villa Design

  • Location: Ubud, Bali – Indonesia
  • Area: 825 m²
  • Year: 2024

PJ Villa is a private villa project designed by DAD Architects, representing the essence of modern tropical living.
Located in Bali, this villa is conceived as a serene retreat that blends natural light, soft material palettes, and open spatial connections — creating an atmosphere of calm and understated luxury.

The client envisioned a place that feels timeless, intimate, and seamlessly connected with the tropical surroundings. Every design decision was guided by the idea of comfort through simplicity.

SITE CONTEXT

Situated within a tropical environment, the villa’s orientation and spatial layout respond directly to the local climate and landscape.
The architecture embraces cross ventilation, filtered sunlight, and open visual corridors, allowing each space to breathe naturally and visually connect with nature.

Framing views through strategic openings enhances the experience of both privacy and openness — a key characteristic of DAD Architects’ tropical design philosophy.

DESIGN CONCEPT

The design concept revolves around “Tropical Tranquility” — merging architectural clarity with natural softness.

PJ Villa showcases a balanced composition of solid and void, natural and crafted. The architecture prioritizes:

  • Seamless indoor-outdoor living,
  • Functional spatial hierarchy,
  • Warm textures and natural tones.

The villa’s spatial rhythm encourages a slow, calm lifestyle — where architecture becomes an extension of the landscape.

SPATIAL LAYOUT

The villa consists of clearly defined zones that ensure both privacy and connection:

  • Living and dining area positioned at the core, open to the swimming pool,
  • Bedrooms arranged to maintain privacy while capturing tropical views,
  • Bathrooms that merge natural textures with daylight, evoking a spa-like feel.

Circulation between spaces is fluid, guided by natural light and subtle transitions between materials.

MATERIAL & FINISHED

PJ Villa’s character is defined by the dialogue of natural materials:

  • Exposed concrete and light-toned stone for a timeless modern look,
  • Wooden accents that add warmth and contrast,
  • Large glass openings to dissolve boundaries between interior and exterior.

Textures are kept natural to highlight the authenticity of each material — creating a calm and sensory spatial experience.

SPACE EXPERIENCE

Inside, the villa feels grounded yet airy.
Soft daylight filters through the large openings, emphasizing the textures of stone, wood, and fabric.
Each space — from the living room to the bedroom suites — offers a unique relationship to the surrounding greenery and water features.

The interior design prioritizes emotional comfort, balancing modern minimalism with the warmth of tropical living.

PJ Villa embodies the design philosophy of DAD Architects — where architecture becomes a living experience that harmonizes with nature.
Through thoughtful composition and restrained detailing, the villa offers serenity, comfort, and timeless elegance.

“Great architecture doesn’t seek to impress, but to make people feel at home — naturally, beautifully, and meaningfully.”
